The Maldives has once again been recognised for its excellence in global tourism, receiving six nominations in the prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA) for 2024. Among the nominations is the coveted title of “World’s Leading Destination 2024,” a title the Maldives has held for the past four consecutive years, from 2019 to 2023.
The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has also been nominated for the title of “World’s Leading Tourist Board 2024.” This nomination reflects MMPRC’s continued efforts in promoting the Maldives as a top destination for travellers across the globe.
The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, are recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of excellence in the travel and tourism industry. Winners are determined through a voting process that includes travel professionals, industry experts, and consumers.
In addition to being in the running for the title of World’s Leading Destination, the Maldives has been nominated in five other categories, showcasing the country’s diverse appeal. These include:
• World’s Leading Green Destination 2024, reflecting the Maldives’ commitment to sustainable tourism and preserving its natural environment.
• World’s Leading Dive Destination 2024, highlighting the country’s world-renowned dive sites and unique marine life.
• World’s Leading Honeymoon Destination 2024, celebrating the Maldives as the ultimate romantic getaway.
• World’s Leading Beach Destination 2024, recognising its pristine beaches, known for their powder-soft sands and turquoise waters.
MMPRC’s nomination for “World’s Leading Tourist Board 2024” is a testament to its strategic marketing efforts, which have elevated the Maldives’ global profile in the tourism sector.
