The Maldives was honoured with 31 awards at this year’s South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Bengaluru.
The SATA Awards, now in their seventh edition, hold a notable position within the South Asian tourism industry.
The Maldives consistently receives accolades at the SATA Awards, with various properties in the country’s tourism industry earning prestigious recognition each year. The recent awards ceremony saw local properties secure 31 awards, comprising 14 gold and 17 silver.
Among the distinctions, the Maldives was named the “Leading Beach Destination” at the Visitors’ Choice Awards, an honour determined by public preferences and opinions.
At the same ceremony, four individuals were presented with the ‘Faces of South Asia’ award for their significant contributions to the tourism sector. Two individuals, Mohamed Umar Manik and Mohamed Ali Janah, are from the Maldives. Mohamed Umar Manik is a notable figure in the Maldivian tourism sector, while Mohamed Ali Janah serves as the Chairman of Hotels and Construction.
The 2023 SATA Awards featured participation from six South Asian nations: India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, emphasising the regional significance of this event in recognising and celebrating excellence in the tourism industry.
