Maldivian has moved to widen its international connectivity through a new partnership with Sri Lankan Airlines, creating additional pathways for travellers between the Maldives and a broader global network via Colombo.
The arrangement links Maldivian’s domestic network with Sri Lankan Airlines’ international routes, allowing inbound passengers to connect onwards to 17 destinations across the Maldives beyond Malé. The development is expected to streamline access to the country’s atolls, particularly for travellers arriving from key global markets through Colombo.
At the same time, the partnership introduces more efficient outbound options for Maldivians travelling abroad. By routing through Colombo, passengers will gain access to a wider range of international destinations, with improved connection times and greater flexibility in travel planning.
Managing Director of Maldivian, Ibrahim Iyas, described the collaboration as a step towards improving accessibility and strengthening links between Malé and the outer atolls. He noted that combining Sri Lankan Airlines’ global reach with Maldivian’s domestic network is expected to support tourism flows while making international travel more convenient for Maldivian passengers.
The agreement reflects a broader push by both carriers to deepen regional cooperation and integrate their networks more closely. By aligning domestic and international operations, the partnership is positioned to support tourism growth and facilitate business travel, while also improving the overall travel experience for passengers moving between the Maldives and overseas markets.
