Maldivian to Begin Direct Flights to Colombo in May 2017

Maldivian Airlines, the National Airline of Maldives, has announced direct flights from Velana International Airport to Colombo Airport Ratmalana in Sri Lanka next month, May 2017.

The announcement follows a series of successful negotiations between Minister of Tourism, Mr. Moosa Zameer and Sri Lankan Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva. Island Aviation’s Head of Facilities Mr. Ali Nasath has stated that the flights will be at a frequency of thrice per week, and the frequency may be changed to daily flights depending on the demand.

The new flights are expected to create even more ease of travel for Maldivians. Sri Lanka, the closest neighboring country, is one of the most popular destinations for Maldivians for medical trips, holidays and higher studies.
