The government has appointed Uza. Mariyam Shamma Ismail as the new Registrar of Companies, following the resignation of her predecessor, Mariyam Visam, on 5th March.
Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed confirmed Shamma’s appointment on Monday, 10th March 2025, and extended his congratulations in a post on X.
Shamma holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the West of England, which she completed in 2004. Her career includes extensive experience in legal and policy roles. In 2021, she served as the Consumer Ombudsman, and prior to that, worked as a legal consultant at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. Shamma has also held key positions, such as Director of Legal and Policy Affairs at the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) and Registrar of the Supreme Court.
Her appointment comes as the government moves to fill the vacancy left by Visam’s recent resignation.
