Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded contracts by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to undertake infrastructure development projects in four islands. MTCC will be responsible for designing and constructing coastal protection structures in K. Himmafushi and AA. Mathiveri, expanding the jetty area in Kulhudhuffushi City, and developing the harbour and boatyard in N. Kendhikulhudhoo.
The coastal protection project in K. Himmafushi involves the construction of a 160m quay wall, a 53m groyne, and a 127m breakwater on the southern side of the island. The project is expected to be completed within six months and will cost USD 765,000. Meanwhile, in AA. Mathiveri, MTCC will be constructing a 54m revetment and a 63m groyne on the western side, a 70m groyne on the southern side, a 110m breakwater, and a 70m groyne on the eastern side. This project is expected to be completed within eight months at a cost of USD 1.6 million.
In addition to the coastal protection projects, MTCC will be expanding the jetty area in Kulhudhuffushi City by 4m and building a platform within eight months at a cost of USD 843,000. Finally, in N. Kendhikulhudhoo, the company will be upgrading the harbour by expanding the area and constructing a 200m breakwater and an 86m jetty. This project is expected to be completed within four months at a cost of USD 5.1 million.
