Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop and upgrade harbors in four islands.
During the special ceremony held on 29th December 2019 , director general of Planning Ministry Fathimath Shana Faarooq signed the agreements on behalf of the government and the COO of MTCC Shahid Hussain Moosa, signed on behalf of the company.
Four island’s to carry out the development and upgrade harbor projects are;
1- K. Himmafushi ( Harbor Phase 2 )
Under this agreement, the harbor upgrade will consist of dredging of 18,800 cubic meters and 9900 cubic meters of channel dredging along with the construction of a 38 meter breakwater, 172 meters of quay wall and 287 meters of revetment. Additionally, this agreement includes the construction of 772 square meters of pavement, the installation of 11 harbor lights, 04 channel lights, 10 mooring blocks and 01 ramp. The project is estimated to cost MVR 24,602,989.02. and is expected to be completed in 365 days
2– Sh. Feydhoo ( Harbor upgrade work)
Under this agreement, the harbor upgrade will consist of dredging of 18,500 cubic meters and channel dredging of 9000 cubic meters along with the construction of a 378 meter breakwater, 280 meters of quay wall and 1400 square meters of pavement. Additionally, this agreement includes installation of 14 harbor lights, 2 channel lights, 10 mooring blocks and 01 ramp. The project is estimated to cost MVR 33,144,965.10. and is expected to be completed in 480 days.
3- A Dh. Hangnaameedhoo ( Harbor upgrade )
Under this agreement, the harbor upgrade will consist of dredging of 4645 cubic meters and channel dredging of 404 cubic meters along with the construction of a 204 meter breakwater, 266 meters of quay wall, 160 meters of revetment and 1330 square meters of pavement. Additionally, this agreement includes installation of 14 harbor lights, 2 channel lights and 12 mooring blocks. The project is estimated to cost MVR 32,280,570.61 and is expected to be completed in 300 day
4- Sh. Foakaidhoo ( Harbor upgrade )
Under this agreement, the harbor upgrade will consist of dredging of 39,995 cubic meters and 4000 cubic meters of channel dredging along with the construction of a 507 meter breakwater, 464 meters of quay wall, 100 meters of revetment and 2320 square meters of pavement. Additionally, this agreement includes installation of 24 harbor lights, 2 channel lights and 12 mooring blocks. The project is estimated to cost MVR 55,974,940.88 and is expected to be completed in 500 days.
