Ooredoo Maldives kickstarts journey to 15 years with exciting announcements

Ooredoo Maldives kick started its 15th anniversary celebrations last night at a special event held at Hotel Jen. The event was held to recognize and extend appreciation towards close local partners of the company, who have contributed to its successful journey of 15 years in enriching lives.

The leading telecommunication giant first launched its mobile telecommunications services in the Maldives on 1st August 2005. Over the years, Ooredoo Maldives has established itself as the industry leader and has brought revolutionary transformations to the local telecommunication industry by continuously introducing the latest digital advancements, innovative products and digital solutions. Ooredoo Maldives were the first to launch the first ever and fastest 3G and 4G networks and the first to demonstrate the highest seen speeds through 5G in the Maldives. In 2019, Ooredoo Maldives launched its eSIM services, HD Voice and Voice over WiFi, all for the first time in the Maldives, in line with its commitment in establishing a Digital Maldives.

Ooredoo Maldives also announced special plans for 2020, as part of the company’s celebration of its journey towards fifteen years in the Maldives. This included:

Announcement of Maziya Sports & Recreation Club as Brand Ambassador
Formed in 1996, Maziya Sports and Recreation Club is a Maldivian football club has achieved great accomplishments throughout the years. In 2015, the club launched Maziya Sports Football Academy, a youth development program equipped with experienced trainers to train and build young footballers across the nation. Under this exciting partnership, Ooredoo will be closely collaborating with Maziya Sports & Recreation Club and the Football Academy to promote football in the Maldives and bring new opportunities for young people who aspire to become professional players.
Ooredoo Maldives also announced the renewal of the partnership with its brand ambassador Habeys Boduberu, for the fifth year.

Ooredoo Color Run 2020
As part of Ooredoo’s efforts to take its popular Color Run to communities across the Maldives, the company announced that the fun run will be held this year in Kulhudhuffushi City on 29th June. Similar to past years, the festivities of Ooredoo Color Run will be also held in Hulhumale’ city at the end of the year, this time on 4th December 2020.
Registrations for Ooredoo Color Run in Kulhudhuffushi City will be opened soon.

Niru Accelerator 2.0
Ooredoo Maldives announced the NIRU 2.0, the second wave of its learning-based business accelerator program in the Maldives. Teams gain entry to the accelerator program through a Hackathon and will receive access to a 12-week long intensive mentor-based learning program, co-working space, digital tools for building their business and the essential technical support from experts. At the end of the program, start-up also receive the chance to pitch for further investments.
Registrations for NIRU Hackathon will open in February, with the event planned for 17th & 18th April 2020. Winning teams will gain access to the Niru Accelerator Program, which will begin in June 2020.
Roadshows have been planned across the Maldives to share more information about the program and the opportunities it opens for young entrepreneurs.

Cyber Safety – CSR Campaign
An unprecedented tool for enabling socio-economic progress, the internet opens up a world of opportunity for communities across the world. In alignment with efforts to make the internet more accessible and affordable for all, and as the internet continues to grow as an essential part of daily life, Ooredoo Maldives commits towards making the internet a safer and life-enriching space for all.
In partnership with Maldives Police Services and Ministry of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment, the company has launched a cyber-safety program to educate younger generations, parents and the elderly on the importance of cyber safety, cyber safety tools, as well as cyber hygiene. Through awareness and education, the program aims to enable local communities to truly enjoy the internet and the many benefits it can connect them to.
