President Muizzu Highlights Maldives-US Ties in Independence Day Message

The Maldives has reaffirmed its longstanding relationship with the United States as both countries mark a year of diplomatic significance, with this year also marking six decades since the establishment of formal relations between the two nations.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu extended greetings to President Donald J. Trump, the Government, and the people of the United States on the occasion of the 250th Anniversary of Independence of the United States of America.
In his message, President Muizzu noted that the occasion carries added significance for the Maldives and the United States, as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He stated that the partnership has developed over the past six decades on the basis of mutual respect, friendship, and a shared interest in peace and prosperity.
The President said the Maldives values its partnership with the United States and remains committed to expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest. These include security and defence, trade and economic development, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
President Muizzu also expressed hope for continued close engagement with President Trump to further deepen relations between the two countries and their peoples.
Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam also sent a message of felicitations to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the occasion. In her message, the Minister conveyed congratulations on behalf of the Government and people of the Maldives, as well as on her own behalf.
The Foreign Minister noted that the Maldives and the United States have built a relationship marked by mutual respect, trust, and constructive cooperation over the past six decades. She also expressed interest in further deepening engagement and working together to advance shared interests in the years ahead.
The messages reflect the Maldives’ continued emphasis on maintaining close diplomatic ties with the United States across political, security, economic, and people-to-people areas.
