President Muizzu Pledges to Ease Saudi Investment in Maldives

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has identified tourism, infrastructure, housing, healthcare, fisheries, renewable energy and logistics as areas for greater Saudi investment in the Maldives, as the two countries seek to expand their economic partnership.

Speaking at a reception marking Saudi Arabia’s 96th National Day at Niva Kurumba Maldives, the President said the Maldives would work to improve its investment climate and facilitate greater participation by Saudi businesses. His remarks outlined areas for future cooperation, rather than specific new investment agreements.

President Muizzu also pointed to the formalisation of the Charter of the Multinational Maritime Defence as a development in bilateral cooperation. He said the Maldives’ participation in Expo 2030 Riyadh could create further opportunities in tourism, investment and innovation.

Reflecting on the relationship between the two countries, the President expressed appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s support for Maldivian development, including its assistance after the 2004 tsunami. He said the Maldives was ready to work with the Kingdom on shared priorities at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed were received at the reception by Saudi Ambassador to the Maldives Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani. The Ambassador presented the President with a commemorative memento following his remarks.
