Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) says that the reason for difficulty in quick unloading of goods in regional ports is due to lack of suitable equipment in the docks.
MPL’s CEO Mr. Shahid Ali stated that in addition to Male, they are also running ports in S. Hithadhoo, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi and ADh. Maamigili and that none of the harbours even come close to the one being run in Male due to lack of necessary equipment.
Mr. Shahid expressed that there is nothing that can be currently done regarding the issue of clearing and unloading goods slowly and that the solutions are to renovate the broken equipment which will take around 2 to 3 months and that more space can be cleared by arranging the containers in a more orderly manner.
