An agreement was signed between the Maldivian government and China Machinery Engineering Corporation for the development of roads and municipal infrastructure in K. Gulhifalhu. The contract, signed on Monday at the President’s Office, represents a notable development in the Maldives’ ongoing infrastructure projects.
Under the agreement, Chinese contractors will take charge of constructing comprehensive municipal services, including electricity, water, and sewerage networks, alongside dewatering systems. The project also encompasses the creation of advanced road systems, the implementation of gigabit ethernet passive optical network (PGON) duct systems, and the establishment of gas storage and distribution centres.
The agreement was signed by Dr Abdulla Muththalib, Minister of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure, on behalf of the Maldivian government, and Mr. Qian Haojun, Regional General Manager of China Machinery Engineering Corporation.
