Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili has paid a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih yesterday at the President’s Office.
During his call, Pololikashvili commended the Maldives for the positive strides in the development of its tourism sector and acknowledged the fast pace at which the Maldives reopened its borders to the world amidst the Covid19 pandemic. Highlighting the importance attached by the UNWTO on promoting sustainability within the tourism sector, Pololikashvili stated that the Maldives is a small country with a huge potential in developing sustainable models of tourism.
Pololikashvili shared views on collaborative efforts towards the development of the tourism sector. He further conveyed that the UNWTO is committed to help and support the Maldives in the development of sustainable means of tourism. The President and the UNWTO Secretary General conversed on several areas of shared interest with regard to the development of tourism. The two also agreed on working closely together on future collaborations.
The Minister of Tourism Dr Abdulla Mausoom and the Secretary, Foreign Relations at the President’s Office Ibrahim Hood attended the call.
