Statistics published by the Ministry of Tourism has revealed that 85,222 tourists arrived to Maldives till June month. Last year, within the same period 79,034 tourists arrived resulting in a 7.8% increase this year compared to last year.
In evaluating the European market, tourism ministry revealed that last June month, tourist arrivals from United Kingdom totaled to 5,893 which increased to 6,081 this June marking a 3.2% increase. Tourist arrivals from Russia totaled to 2,939 last June while it increased to 3,262 this June marking a 11% increase. Similarly, tourist arrivals from Italy totaled to 2,583 last June which increased to 2,768 this June marking a 7.2% increase. On the other hand, tourist arrivals from France dropped from 778 to 701.
Looking into other markets, as per the statistics published by tourism ministry it can be observed that tourist arrivals from China decreased from 28,653 to 24,160 this June compared to last June marking a decrease of 15.7%. Tourist arrivals from India, on the other hand showed a tremendous increase by 48%. Last June, 4,660 tourists arrived while it increased to 6,919 this June.
