State Electric Company (STELCO) has announced the successful synchronization of its powerhouses in Male’ and Hulhumale’, via the Greater Male’ Grid.
As a result, power can now be provided from Male’ to Hulhumale’, and vice versa.
The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology has also taken to Twitter to congratulate STELCO on its landmark achievement. The Ministry noted that the successful power interconnection between Male’ and Hulhumale’ will provide immediate relief to the capacity shortage in Male’, and also opens up the possibility for further Solar PV penetration.
The Greater Male’ Grid links the power network in Male’, Hulhumale’ and Hulhule’ with two 7-kilometer 132 KV circuits. STELCO has also installed four 95 MVA transformers in Male’ and Hulhumale’, and two 8 MVA transformers in Hulhule’ under the project. Each circuit has the capacity to generate 100 megawatts of power.
