Tourist Establishments to Move to New Guest Reporting System

Key points
  • MIRA's new Maldives Guest Information System (MGIS) lets establishments report guest data for both MIRA and the Ministry of Tourism, eliminating duplicate submissions.
  • Mandatory reporting begins 1 November 2026 for establishments with over 50 beds, and 1 January 2027 for all other Green Tax registered parties.
  • Establishments using MGIS no longer need to upload separate information sheets, as data pre-fills into Green Tax returns, though filing deadlines remain unchanged.

Tourist establishments will be able to fulfil guest information reporting requirements for both the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) and the Ministry of Tourism through a single system, reducing duplicate submissions.

MIRA’s new Maldives Guest Information System (MGIS) allows parties registered for Green Tax to submit information about tourists staying at their establishments. Information reported through MGIS will also count towards the mandatory information submission requirements of the Ministry of Tourism.

The system was inaugurated by Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Hassan Zareer. According to MIRA, integration with establishments’ own systems will remove the manual work involved in submitting guest information.

Mandatory reporting will be introduced in two stages. Resorts, hotels and guesthouses with more than 50 beds must begin reporting through MGIS from 1 November 2026. All other parties registered for Green Tax must use the system to report information for periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027. The system is already open to all registered parties.

The change will also simplify the supporting information required when filing Green Tax returns. Establishments that report guest information through MGIS will no longer need to upload a separate information sheet alongside their return for the relevant period. Instead, the information will be automatically pre-filled into the return.

Green Tax filing and payment deadlines remain unchanged. Taxpayers must continue to file returns and make payments through MIRAconnect, with MGIS serving as the channel for guest information reporting.
