Maldives has been elected as the chair of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Commission for South Asia for the next two years.
The Maldives had also been the Chair of the Commission from the year 1995 to 1997.
The UNWTO Commission for South Asia consists of 9 members namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
As the leading international organization in the field of tourism, UNWTO promotes tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development, and environmental sustainability and offers leadership and support to the sector in advancing knowledge and tourism policies worldwide.
