Fisheries Ministry has stated that they are working on to provide opportunities to companies to export fish in order to ensure equal pay for fishermen.
In an event held at the Fisheries Ministry, the Director of Fisheries Minister Adam Ziyad said that they will be giving chance to other companies to export fish.
He highlighted that fishermen face difficulties to sell their catch due to the lack of options to market the product.
During the regime of President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, 4 companies were given the permit to sell fish in 2000. The companies were Island Entrepreneurs, Jauza Fisheries, Funahdoo, and Horizon Fisheries. Horizon Fisheries is the only company which buys fish.
