MTCC Contracted to Upgrade Harbours in N. Velidhoo and Lhohi

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded two harbour upgrade projects in the islands of Velidhoo and Lhohi in Noonu Atoll.

At a ceremony held on Thursday at the Planning Ministry’s headquarters in Male’ City, the contracts were signed by the Director General of the Planning Ministry, Fathimath Shana Farooq, and General Manager at MTCC, Shifau Ali.

Velidhoo’s harbour upgrade project is estimated to cost MVR 50 million, and is to be completed by MTCC within 500 days. The project’s scope includes channel dredging operations of 2,414 cubic meters, 67,020 cubic meters in harbour basin dredging operations, and 19,513 cubic meters in new harbour basin dredging activities.

The Lhohi harbour upgrade project is estimated to cost MVR 68 million, and is to be completed by MTCC within 640 days. The project’s scope includes 2,205 cubic meters of channel dredging work and 66,701 cubic meters of harbour basin dredging.

A further project to safeguard the coast of GA. Dhevvadhoo was also awarded to MTCC. The project is valued at MVR 24 million and must be complete by MTCC within 210 days. The project’s scope involves building 11 440-meter Y-shaped groynes and constructing 120-meter rock boulder revetments to the north, east, and south of Dhevvadhoo.
