The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) 2026 has officially secured recognition as a World Athletics Ranking Competition, marking a major milestone for long-distance running in the Maldives.
As per Dhiraagu, the international endorsement allows eligible performances recorded during the race to count towards athletes’ official World Athletics rankings, granting runners the chance to achieve internationally accredited results on Maldivian soil.
Dhiraagu closed registration after securing more than 5,500 participants, establishing the 2026 edition as the largest in the event’s history. The company initially capped entries at 4,000 runners but expanded capacity following strong public demand.
The event will take place on Friday, 20 November 2026, at Hulhumalé Central Park. The schedule features a Half Marathon, a 10K, and a 5K Open, alongside newly introduced team categories designed to cater to both seasoned long-distance runners and first-time participants.
Dhiraagu highlights that DMRR holds the distinction of being the first international run hosted in the Maldives. The event features a World Athletics-certified race route and holds a listing on the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running Calendar.
The company emphasises that, alongside its athletic focus, the 2026 race maintains its commitment to child protection—a key pillar of its corporate social responsibility programme. The event serves as a platform for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to raise funds and advocate for children’s rights.
