Hondaafushi Island Resort officially opened and started welcoming guests on 18th March 2018, making it the first tourist resort to open in the atoll.
Located in Northern Haa Dhaalu, the island is 500m in width and 2km long. The island is accessible via domestic flight from Velana International Airport to Hanimaadhoo Airport, followed by a 10 minute speed launch ride to the resort.
The resort held its soft opening with 80 villas in operation. Unlike other Maldives resorts, Hondaafushi has plenty of isolated beach locations to enjoy private moments with no one at your eye sight.
Hondaafushi plans on expanding the resort with 100 rooms each year. The resort plans to accommodate 400 villas over the next five years.
Hondaafushi is owned and operated by AAA Hotels and Resorts. The company currently operates Filitheyo Island Resort in Faafu atoll, Medhufushi Island Resort in Meemu atoll, and Bathala Island Resort in South Ari Atoll.
Up until today, Haa Dhaal remained as the only atoll in the Maldives which did not have a tourist resort.
