MACL Launches Aviation Institute of Maldives to Accelerate Technical Sector Training
- MACL officially launched the Aviation Institute of Maldives (AIM) to accelerate technical workforce training for the national aviation sector.
- The event marked the graduation of 29 students who completed the Certificate Level 3 in Airport Security Management.

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) officially launched the Aviation Institute of Maldives (AIM) on 12th August 2026 during a ceremony held at the Hulhule Island Hotel ballroom. The event simultaneously marked the graduation of the institute’s inaugural cohort.
The Chancellor of the Maldives National University (MNU), Dr Mahamood Shougee, attended the event as chief guest and formally inaugurated the institute alongside MACL Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed and senior management personnel.
Addressing guests at the ceremony, Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed stated that the establishment of AIM will directly strengthen and accelerate MACL’s efforts to build a highly skilled workforce tailored to the national aviation sector. He noted that the primary mission of the institute is to address the technical workforce requirements of the aviation industry, reflecting MACL’s long-term commitment to developing specialized personnel for airport operations.
Emphasising that MACL’s ongoing progress depends heavily on the knowledge, skills, and capabilities of its workforce, Managing Director Shareef highlighted the importance of continuously developing employees across all areas of airport operations. He explained that AIM will provide staff with structured pathways to gain recognised qualifications, strengthen technical competencies, and advance their careers while remaining with the company.
A total of 29 students graduated after successfully completing the Certificate Level 3 in Airport Security Management. Developed in alignment with National Qualifications Framework standards approved by the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA), the course ran from 1 June to 9 September 2025. The program specifically trains new recruits joining MACL’s Estate Security Services to enhance passenger safety and security at Velana International Airport.
Managing Director Shareef presented the graduation certificates to the participants, while Dr Shougee awarded special recognitions to top performers. In his address, Dr Shougee commended MACL for its commitment to building an educated, skilled workforce and contributing to technical training in the Maldives. Concluding his remarks, Managing Director Shareef congratulated the graduates and encouraged all MACL employees to make full use of the education and professional training opportunities available through the new institute.
