Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Hassan Zareer has met with a senior Asian Development Bank (ADB) delegation to review the bank’s ongoing programme in the Maldives and discuss future areas of cooperation.
The delegation was led by Sona Shrestha, Director General of ADB’s South Asia Department, and Dr Thiam Hee Ng, Regional Head of the Regional Cooperation and Integration Unit. Senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises also attended the meeting.
Discussions focused on the government’s strategic development priorities and opportunities to expand cooperation with the ADB. Shrestha reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting sustainable and inclusive development in the Maldives.
The Maldives has been an ADB member since 1978. As of the end of 2025, the bank had committed USD 556 million through 121 public sector loans, grants and technical assistance operations in the country, with its work covering areas including fiscal sustainability, inclusive growth, renewable energy and climate resilience.
