The Maldivian delegation led by Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen has held discussions with Russian transport officials on expanding air connectivity, before meeting Aeroflot in Moscow.
Minister Ameen met Dmitry Zverev, State Secretary of Transport of the Russian Federation, as part of the delegation’s engagement with Russian tourism and aviation stakeholders. The discussions focused on increasing flight connections between the Maldives and Russia.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Minister Ameen said the two sides had agreed to increase air connectivity. He added that further Russian carriers were expected to commence services to the Maldives, although no details were provided on the airlines, routes or commencement dates.
The delegation later met Aeroflot, with representatives from Maldives Airports Company Limited and Visit Maldives Corporation also participating.
Aeroflot operates scheduled services between Moscow and Malé and remains an important link for Russian travellers visiting the Maldives. The meeting placed the airline within the Maldives’ wider efforts to maintain and expand air access from one of its largest tourism markets.
The delegation includes senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and Visit Maldives Corporation, alongside private-sector tourism representatives. It has held meetings with tour operators in Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as travel trade partners, digital platforms and hospitality companies.
Russia is currently the Maldives’ second-largest source market for tourist arrivals. The delegation’s programme has focused on engaging industry partners while exploring ways to support travel demand and connectivity from the market.
