Maldives Media Council hosts Journalism Awards for the year 2016

Most Promising Journalist: Moosa Rasheed

Daily newspaper Mihaaru walked away with the most awards at the Maldives Media Council (MMC)’s Journalism Awards for the year 2016.
Mihaaru took home no less than five awards at the event which was held at Dharubaaruge on the 11th of October 2017. The awards were as follows:

• Social category – Aasiyath Mohamed Saeed
• Legal category – Muizzu Ibrahim
• Sports category – Azzam Alifulhu
• Politics category – Ali Naafiz
• Feature category – Niumathullah Idrees

Both Muizzu Ibrahim and Azzam Alifulhu is walking away with awards for the second consecutive year while Aasiyath Mohamed Saeed has previously won the business category in 2015. Best Feature is a brand new category introduced by the Media Council for this year’s awards. Additionally, MMC awarded in categories such as Photojournalism, Videojournalism and Business.

Fayaz Moosa of Sun Online walked away with the Photojournalist award for 2017 while Aminath Ameena of VTV won the best video journalist and Mahild Mohamed won in the business category respectively.

The Maldives Media Council award the Most Promising Journalist to Moosa Rasheed of Avas. MMC awarded the highest accolade of the night, the Lifetime Achievement Award to Abbas Ibrahim, the founder of Aafathis newspaper who was one of the pioneers of modern day journalism in the Maldives.
