MPL Clears More Than 1,800 Cargo Consignments in One Week

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) processed 1,804 cargo clearances at the Malé Commercial Harbour between 12 and 19 July, including substantial quantities of essential food items.

The total comprised 1,453 containers from container vessels and 351 consignments from general cargo vessels. Cargo cleared during the period amounted to 43,933.57 freight tonnes, of which 41,753.59 tonnes came from container vessels and 2,179.98 tonnes from general cargo vessels.

Six vessels arrived at the harbour during the week, consisting of three container vessels and three general cargo vessels. Eight vessels departed over the same period, including four container ships and four general cargo ships.

Port operations recorded 3,758 container movements, with 2,028 containers unloaded and 1,730 loaded onto vessels.

Perishable goods cleared included 15,530 cases of eggs, 15,821 bags of onions, 4,673 bags of garlic, 3,614 cases of tomatoes and 2,112 cases of bananas.

MPL said it is working to accelerate cargo clearance and reported that processing times have been reduced considerably compared with the previous year.
