President Muizzu Sets November 2027 Target for Thilafushi Commercial Port
- President Muizzu targets 11 November 2027 for Thilafushi commercial port to be fully operational.
- 80 per cent of harbour operations move to Thilafushi, with the rest handled at Malé Industrial Village.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said the relocation of the Malé Commercial Harbour to Thilafushi is expected to be fully operational by 11 November 2027, with most cargo activity shifting away from the capital’s residential areas.
Speaking on the third episode of the Nation Chat podcast, President Muizzu said 80 per cent of harbour operations would move to the new commercial port at Thilafushi. The remaining activity would be handled through the planned Malé Industrial Village near the Malé terminus of the Thilamalé Bridge.
Containers would move between the two facilities by roll-on/roll-off ferries, under a plan intended to keep freight transport outside densely populated parts of Malé.
The President said the Thilafushi port would use a fully digitalised operations management system and include incentives aimed at attracting private businesses to establish commercial activities within the port area and the Malé Industrial Village.
He also linked the port plans to the ongoing Malé Ring Road reconstruction. Additional finger jetties are planned at existing speedboat terminals to improve passenger boarding, disembarkation and vessel berthing, alongside work on the final section of the road between the Maldives Ports Limited area and the Tsunami Monument.
