President Sets 2028 Target for Development Projects Despite Economic Challenges

President Muizzu has stated his intention to complete all planned development projects across the Maldives by the second quarter of 2028. Speaking at a Peoples’ National Congress (PNC) rally in Ukulhas, Alif Alif Atoll, he outlined the administration’s plans to deliver these infrastructure initiatives amidst reported national economic constraints.
Addressing local issues in Ukulhas, the President announced the planned reclamation of two hectares of land, which the government states will address ongoing housing shortages. Following meetings with local tourism operators, he also noted that a coastal protection project is scheduled to commence within a fortnight, pending the conclusion of its Environmental Impact Assessment.
Beyond regional efforts, President Muizzu stated that major land reclamation, housing, and infrastructure programmes are ongoing nationwide. In his recent Independence Day address, he reported that his administration has finished 590 infrastructure projects and is currently managing another 1,635. He added that the government operates financial loan schemes aimed at young people and women alongside these physical infrastructure plans.
