Savaaheli Removed from Addu City Jurisdiction to Facilitate Tourism Development

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has revised the administrative jurisdiction of Addu City, removing Savaaheli from the city’s official boundary in a move intended to facilitate tourism development.
The change was made through Decree No. 13/2026 under Section 56-1(a) of the Decentralisation Act, which gives the President the authority to determine and designate the jurisdictions of city and island councils.
The amendment formally excludes Savaaheli from Addu City’s administrative area, altering the city’s previously defined jurisdiction.
A revised chart setting out Addu City’s updated administrative boundaries has been published in the Government Gazette.
The government said the change was made as part of efforts to support tourism development in the area.
