Finance Ministry has announced that starting from 25th March, state offices will only accept digital payments.
A circular released from the Ministry states that the change was made to minimize the use of banknotes and cheques. According to the Ministry, starting from 25th March, payments to government offices will be processed via the Bank of Maldives mobile Point-Of-Sale (mPOS) payment solution.
The circular also informs offices to request the arrangements via email to Finance Ministry before 25th February. While all state offices excluding Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), Local Councils, and government offices established abroad are required to follow the new procedures.
