The Vilunveshi Grant programme has opened applications for individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises seeking funding for projects that combine food security, community benefit and environmental sustainability.
Eligible projects can receive up to MVR 100,000 in financial assistance. Applicants must demonstrate that their proposals protect the environment and can deliver lasting benefits to communities.
The scheme is jointly implemented by SME Digital and the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources. It is intended to support locally developed ideas, including digital solutions and income-generating initiatives that use environmentally sustainable approaches.
For an import-dependent country such as the Maldives, the focus on food security could support projects that improve local production, reduce resource use or address practical constraints in the food supply chain. The programme’s environmental criteria also place emphasis on limiting harm in a geographically fragile setting.
The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy launched the programme on 23 June.
Applications can be submitted through the SME Portal, subject to the programme guidelines.
