To foster its mission in empowering the women of Maldives, Women in Management (WIM)has launched its local chapter in the first ever International Women Leadership Conference in Maldives held in Hotel Jen on the 14th of September 2017.
While the event was officiated by First Lady Madam Fathimath Ibrahim, Sri Lankan State Minister Sudharshini Fernandopulle, Youth Minister Iruthisham Adam, members of WIM SriLanka Executive Committee as well as numerous participants and partners were in attendance.
During the event, WIM Maldives revealed their Executive Committee, launched the WIM Maldives Membership Card, conducted a panel discussion on Women Leadership and presented the Professional & Career Women Award to three Maldivian women.
The Executive Committee was revealed by the Founder and Chairperson of WIM, Dr. Sulochana Segera. WIM Maldives will be led by President Ms. Minha Faiz Rashaad, along with 4 other members of the Executive Committee; Secretary General Ms. Rizma Rasheed, Administrative Director Mr. Mohamed Auzam, Exco member Ms. Maisha Adam and Exco Member Ms. Aminath Rishfa.
Professional Career Women Awards were given in three categories this year; Ms. Shaira Saleem won Business Role Model of 2017 in Maldives, Ms. Aishath Rafihyya won Career Role Model of 2017 in Maldives, and Ms. Juwairiya Wajudhy won Entrepreneur of 2017 in Maldives.
‘The Professional & Career Women Awards’ celebrates the achievements of remarkable women who inspire those around them – either through the media, through their outstanding achievements in their careers, businesses and everyday lives. This is going to be an annual event uplifting and emotional award ceremony where women are celebrated equally in one room.
Sri Lankan State Minister Sudharshini Fernandopulle, Youth Minister Iruthisham Adam and the Founder and Chairperson of WIM, Dr. Sulochana Segera, WIM Maldives President Minha Faiz, WIM Maldives Secretary General Rizma Rasheed and award winner Juwariya Wajdhy, all addressed the event.
During Minister Iruthisham’s speech, she thanked First Lady Madam Fathimath Ibrahim by appreciating many initiatives brought by her to the women of the country. She said that she was positive that through such collaborations between our countries, we will be able to uplift all women by sharing pf knowledge, experience and help them develop academically.
Speaking on the foundations of women empowerment, Dr. Sulochana said, “Change starts at home, even in Maldives or Sri Lanka. Start from your son. Empower your sons, then your daughters will be empowered”. She went on to say that WIM women should always be ready to help other women. She stated her reason behind choosing Maldives for a WIM chapter is because it’s not about quantity and more about the quality.
Speakers in the Women Leadership panel discussion included the three awardees who won the “The Professional & Career Women Awards 2017” from Maldives and two well-recognized and reputed businesswomen from Sri Lanka. The discussion was met with much enthusiasm from the participants.
During the event, the WIM Maldives Membership Card was launched by First Lady Madam Fathimath Ibrahim. The membership card not only helps members participate in WIM activities but also grants them discounts products and services from partner businesses.
