This page describes the financial position of the Maldives Monetary Authority itself. It should not be presented as the overall financial position of the Maldives, the banking system or the government.

CM calculations include percentage changes, combined commercial-bank balances, combined government deposits and the net foreign-currency financial asset position. These derived figures should be labelled clearly.

Foreign cash and balances with banks

Foreign-currency cash held in the Maldives and deposits held at local and overseas banks.

Government treasury bonds

The outstanding principal value of government bonds held by MMA.

Commercial-bank balances

Balances maintained for reserve requirements, settlement and clearing; the local-currency item also includes overnight placements.

Securities sold under repo

Securities sold with an agreement to repurchase them later as part of MMA's open-market operations.

Currency in circulation

Notes and coins issued into circulation by MMA and recorded as a liability to holders.

Equity reserves

A combination of general, foreign-asset revaluation, FVOCI, property revaluation, other reserves and accumulated profit or loss.
